Huevos Rancheros: Las Cazuelas

I was up in Frisco over the weekend, at the yearly Anarchist Bookfair, and I came back a bit pissed. There was this talk that I was looking forward to hearing, suggested by someone that wanted my opinion on the topic, when all of a sudden it was disrupted by some moralistic assholes that thought I shouldn’t hear what the woman was talking about. She had some critique of being vegetarian/vegan so three fools took it upon themselves to hit her with a cayenne pepper laced pie. That was the end of that session, as she spent the rest of her allotted time washing out her burning eyes in the restroom.

I’ve been trying to come up with a post idea to deal with this issue, something to denounce these 3 Vegan Nazis and their misguided tactics, but it hasn’t come to me yet. I wanted to say something to express my contempt towards all forms of Moral Fundamentalism, that ideology that denies our humanity and turns us all into mere characters, something that would also shame those in the crowd that cheered this assault. I can’t figure out a way to say it. Maybe I’m not cut out for opinionating.

Fuck it, I’ll just do an HR review instead. That’ll make both the Vegans and the Anti-Factory Farming authors angry! No pies please.

Huevos Rancheros: Barragan’s

Back when I was a kid Barragan’s was the spot for a special meal with the family. A place that meant you’d have to comb your hair properly, as this was the height of the hair combing days. Now that I’m an adult that pays his own way, and thus entitled to wear my greƱas come se me de las ganas, I can come here any old day. Yet I haven’t been back in a long time as this type of Mex-American food is not the sort I crave. But I’d knew I’d be back to have a taste of their monster HR’s some day, and that day arrived unexpectedly this week after work. HR’s for dinner? But of course!

Huevos Rancheros: Guanajuato Edition

Do my HR reviews even make sense anymore? They’re all over the place. I certainly seem to have dropped the ball on this endeavor. If you recall, I started this lil’ project 3 years ago just to keep track of where to get a decent plate in my city of Los Angeles. But I’ve given up on trying the dish in many locations just cuz I’d rather have a decent meal instead of an experiment that will no doubt disappoint. My stack of regrets just keeps growing, and the posts just get pushed back until some other time. There’s a few good ones in the works but yes, I am very behind.

Oddly enough, even though it’s not really relevant to me or the people that end up finding this blog, now I kinda like doing the far away ones, checking out how different places interpret this dish. Going through the Southwest this past summer was revealing: I learned to appreciate their unique take on Mexican food. And as you would imagine, being in Mexico even for just a little while is always a gustatory extravaganza. I don’t check out the “foodie” places, partly because I don’t care enough to do my research, but also because I just like to see what kind of food is available to the average person walking thru a city. Yes, I’m very pedestrian.

On this last trip to Mexico we were able to check out Guanajuato, which was new to me. Thankfully CT mentioned this next restaurant that turned out being super close to where we stayed. So for what it’s worth, I present you with a review of the HR’s at Truco 7! There’s possibly some value in that, no?

GDL: Some Pics

I’m down South for a lil’ spell, escaping my obligations, checking out new places, and recharging the batteries. Of this laptop and my own I suppose. I’m taking a few pictures just cuz. So here goes a few, just to keep on the general theme of this blog. That being the blog that makes no sense! Jaja!

Dia de las Brujas is getting mixed up nicely with Dia de Muertos, as you can see from some of the items available at a papeleria.
