Tacos El Chavo

tacos_elchavo

Today was an odd day, full of serendipity and chanflasos. Earlier today and completely by accident, in a neighborhood I rarely visit, I ran into Burritos El Chavo and had a decent plate of HR’s. That was pretty cool.

And tonight, going to see if the gig at the LH community gallery was still going on (it wasn’t) I ran into an extra-legal front yard taqueria. Their name? Tacos El Chavo, of course! Now really, what are the odds of that? I think if I ran into a Tamales El Chavo I’d surely have a heart attack.

One of you meat eaters out there will have to check for me, but I bet they make the best damn meat tacos anywhere!

(Psst, it’s on Sichel. Shhh!)

ja! pues ni modo. maybe you need to start your own tofu taco stand. by the way, even though I am not vegetarian, i really like the tacos al pastor vegetarianos. i cook them with tofu (they dry kind) achiote, onion, piña. real good stuff.

  2. In Tepatitlán, Jalisco, you sell hamburguesas.

Also, Altura St. I believe I saw a small figurine of “El Chavo” next to the Virgen de Guadalupe statue!

A new religious icon for Mexican Catholics perchance?

haha! That would be my house with the Chavo and Chilindrina in the garden. lol

Ok, maybe I am biased because I know the lady at the Sichel Street House (between Altura and Ave 26) – BUT – I love her tacos. Now, the only problema I have is she is chopping the meat too small these days. Now, that goes for the carne asada.

But, she is famous for her birria. She makes it at her parties and it’s a hit. So, I recommend the birria tacos. I’m not much for burritos, but she makes burritos too. Go for the birria. I’ve had the asada, they are good. The al pastor are really good. AND she has chorrizo. I really like the chorrizo. I usually go for the birria and chorrizo.

They are only $1 and well served. She also has orchata and champurrado that she makes. I don’t like either, but I hear they are killer.

She’s out there Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You can take them to go or sit on her front porch. Her name is Nora.

I said I was partial! lol

Thanks for the info Erika! I’ve ben curious to try them out, but since I never see anyone there the times I’ve passed by (which are very few), I just keep on walking. I’ll definately give the Birria tacos or burrito a try as I love Birria!! I’ll be sure to tell Nora you sent me!

Mmmmmmmmm…birria. Her birria is just evil.

  7. I’m not buying it unless the cook is coming out of an empty wooden barrel.
