Huevos Rancheros: El Chile

I seem to have fallen behind on my HR reviews as I have more HR eating experiences than I do posts. I’m not sure if it’s worth catching up as I’m already forgetting some of the details. Yeah, I usually don’t take notes, even though I should. Oh well, que se la va ser? This one I don’t mind quickly filing away, as I’m not particularly inspired to come back to El Chile.

I like the outdoor-ish eating patio and the ability to watch the action on the street and to keep an eye on my hot ride, but my mood turned sour as soon as I spotted my plate; it just looks unappetizing. For starters, I thought for sure they had poured some sort of Italian Salad dressing on my HR, but I guess it wasn’t, even though I could barely make out the flavors in this sauce. I was running errands and stopped here just because it was convenient, and I briefly contemplated just chucking the whole thing, but since I already paid my 5 bucks and I was still hungry, I just stopped thinking about how ugly this plate looked. There was a tortilla underneath. You can tell the beans were dry and kinda cold, just like the jack cheese on top, yet they tasted better than they looked. The rice was okay. Oddly, they have a salsa bar with some decent salsas, any of these would have worked much better than the grayish cloudy sauce that smothered these eggs. With the added salsas I managed to make this an edible meal, though I didn’t finish it all. I got up, thanked the staff, and went on my way, doubting if I will ever return.

P.S. Due to circumstances beyond my control, posting here might get a bit sporadic. You’ll manage. Get an rss feed reader already, you’ll never have to check back here without reason. Hasta Pronto!

OK, cool, but I was looking at the menu on the wall in the photo and saw item number three, “original chile.” Um… Does that mean its different from, like, duplicate chile? … replica chile? What if I want that stuff… Where do I go then? Damn…

What I noticed on the menu on the wall was the Arepas on the menu. Is this a Venezulan place, the Arepas on the menu brought back memories of the great times I had in Venezuela. I will stop by and trysome arepas.

Adios huevos rancheros, ola arepas de queso !!!!

    That really does look unappetizing.

Have you tried the HR at Tonny’s in Pasadena? I recently went there and I think they have the best HR I’ve had ever.
