It’s about time for another review of Huevos Rancheros! This episode takes us to yet another LH locale, the little shack known as Gloria’s<\/a> (now called Gloria Marron) but which has recently undergone a few ownership changes. A few months ago the newest owners set up shop and quickly put up some nice paintings on the walls, that’s always a good sign! Check out the pic above: a tortilla maker punching down the masa with one hand while pulling out a perfectly formed tortilla with the other, that is some talent. There’s also some fresh salsa in the molcajete and fresh aguas in the background. You know it’s worth a try! So I did..<\/p>\n ..and since my main taster dish is the HR’s, I made my order:<\/p>\n “Unos huevos rancheros, por favor!”<\/p>\n “Umm, is that the one with the tortillas on the bottom?” sez the young son related to the family. Afterwards I noticed that they weren’t even on the menu, which was a shocker. But they were kind enough to make the dish anyways, Orale! And this is what I got..<\/p>\n Uh, what happened to the salsa that makes this a dish? I was a tad stunned but I got my bearings quickly and just asked for some salsa.<\/p>\n “Green or Red?”<\/p>\n “Both.”<\/p>\n And with that, I made my own dish of HR’s.<\/p>\n Not perfect but salvageable. The saving grace of this dish were the terrific handmade fresh tortillas: they forgot to fry the one underneath the eggs, but it was an honest, real, fresh tortilla with that perfect taste of simplicity that trumps all other minor flaws. And they gave me a few more to go with the dish:<\/p>\n Sas, that’s good enough for me! This family business just started up and I know they’ll get everything in order soon, like adding HR’s to the menu. I’ll try their HR’s again, hopefully they’ll improve. But the tortillas alone are worth the visit, and they also have some decent Tortas de Camaron available during cuaresma:<\/p>\n There’s only one more Friday left, don’t forget to try them somewhere.<\/p>\n And finally, one of the best things about the new Glorias has got to be this sign:<\/p>\n If you can’t make it out or can’t read Spanish (you really should learn, it’s the language of the ghetto<\/a>), the pig is thinking “the only consolation I have left: that here they will make me into tasty carnitas and chicharron.” Now that’s what I call sacrifice!<\/p>\n For God so loved Lincoln Heights, that he gave his only begotten Pig, that whosoever eateth on him should not perish, but have everlasting greasy chicharron lips.<\/em><\/p>\n Gloria Marron (aka Glorias) 2657 Pasadena Ave. LH, 90031 323.441.0211<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" It’s about time for another review of Huevos Rancheros!
