It’s a small little hut with outdoor seating and a large menu, though I think they specialize in tacos, burritos, and tortas. I’m gonna make this review short, as I’m gonna try and bang out a few this weekend to try and catch up. Click ahead for the details.

Speaking of banging out, pay attention to the first pic and how they strategically placed the two salsa cups in between the tortilla tube. I don’t like it when people put stuff on my food and I like it even less when it looks like a weenie con dos huevos. Que me queran decir?

On to the food. The beans were leaning towards the bland side, the cold white cheese gratings on top did nothing to add to the flavor. The rice was passionately committed to blandness, almost like a white rice with a little bit of color thrown in. (I wonder if that analogy might work further here?) The sauce was mostly a thick tomatoey paste with a bunch of sauteed cilantro thrown in, you can see some cilantro clumps up there in the corner. It had a sort of fresh spinach taste but not what I wanted on my HR’s. Y pa’ cabarla de chingar, they used a regular non-oil-dipped tortilla underneath! Oh yeah, and the cutlery was the cheapest sort of plastic utensils, that kind that bends back and forth as you try to make a cut. I need to start packing a spork. On the plus side, the eggs were really fresh and properly cooked which makes all the difference in the world. At around $5-6 bucks a plate (I wasn’t paying so can’t remember) it’s not a bad deal, but it certainly doesn’t warrant another revisit from me.

PS. The Veggie burrito is super boring as well.

Cactus Taqueria (323) 464-5865
950 Vine St
Los Angeles, CA 90038

I’ve been venturing a bit to places on the Westside, err, make that the Otherside for the HR’s, this time around I hit up the Cactus Taqueria #1 on Vine in Hollywood.
