Last week I cooked up some breakfast for a World Cup party. Today I just wanted something easier. Time to order from an old favorite, La Llamarada!

Huevos Rancheros: La Llamarada – World Cup Edition
Thursday, June 17th, 2010Huevos Rancheros: 3 por 1 LH Edition!
Sunday, April 25th, 2010(Wow! This post has been sitting in my draft folder since August of 2009! Let’s see if I can finish it.)
So yeah, I’m a bit behind on HR reviews. Usually, if the dish is exceptional in either a good or bad way, it gets a timely write up. But if it’s one for the mediocre/not-bad pile, I tend to get distracted and forget it ever happened. But since it seems the restaruant scene in Lincoln Heights is changing quite a bit as of late, I’d be remiss to not post these notes on some recent examples, for whatever it’s worth. Still with me? Click ahead then!
First up, the sign that grabbed my attention. I was walking along on N. Broadway running my usual errands: paying bills, mailing mail, buying a fancy outfit for the weekend, checking out the specials at the lil’ Big Saver, when this sign just jumped into my path. Can you believe that Le Blanc has HR’s? Me neither, lets go find out!
Cooking with EL CHAVO! : Huevos Rancheros!
Monday, March 29th, 2010It seems a bit wrong that I should share my version of this dish with you all, considering that I’ve spent many weekend mornings critiquing/praising the variety of examples available in Los Angeles. It almost seems smug, as if I assume this the best way to make them. I don’t think I’m that pretentious. If you’ve read any of my previous cooking classes, I’ve always said that you need to alter things to your liking, to vary the ingredients so they reflect what your palette wants. Well, this is me telling you what I like, how I know Huevos Rancheros, how I prefer them. As you can plainly see, they are very basic. And that’s just how I like it!
Huevos Rancheros: Las Cazuelas
Saturday, March 20th, 2010I was up in Frisco over the weekend, at the yearly Anarchist Bookfair, and I came back a bit pissed. There was this talk that I was looking forward to hearing, suggested by someone that wanted my opinion on the topic, when all of a sudden it was disrupted by some moralistic assholes that thought I shouldn’t hear what the woman was talking about. She had some critique of being vegetarian/vegan so three fools took it upon themselves to hit her with a cayenne pepper laced pie. That was the end of that session, as she spent the rest of her allotted time washing out her burning eyes in the restroom.
I’ve been trying to come up with a post idea to deal with this issue, something to denounce these 3 Vegan Nazis and their misguided tactics, but it hasn’t come to me yet. I wanted to say something to express my contempt towards all forms of Moral Fundamentalism, that ideology that denies our humanity and turns us all into mere characters, something that would also shame those in the crowd that cheered this assault. I can’t figure out a way to say it. Maybe I’m not cut out for opinionating.
Fuck it, I’ll just do an HR review instead. That’ll make both the Vegans and the Anti-Factory Farming authors angry! No pies please.
Huevos Rancheros: Cacao Mexicatessen
Thursday, March 4th, 2010Huevos Rancheros: Barragan’s
Saturday, January 16th, 2010Back when I was a kid Barragan’s was the spot for a special meal with the family. A place that meant you’d have to comb your hair properly, as this was the height of the hair combing days. Now that I’m an adult that pays his own way, and thus entitled to wear my greñas come se me de las ganas, I can come here any old day. Yet I haven’t been back in a long time as this type of Mex-American food is not the sort I crave. But I’d knew I’d be back to have a taste of their monster HR’s some day, and that day arrived unexpectedly this week after work. HR’s for dinner? But of course!
