Super Car Wash Sunday

I don’t usually wash my car, its too bourgeois. But sometimes I do have to hose down the dirt so I can see as I maneuver the jalopy to my intended destination. And since I’m a DIY kinda guy, I hit up the self-wash, the closest one being over on N. Figueroa. Weekends are the worst time to go, lines of cars waiting to wash, waiting to dry, waiting to vacuum, and all the dudes way into their cars make it a habit of hanging out as long as possible, occasionally looking up to see if people are looking at the ride, or looking at them. The macho car wash scene, it exists.

But I had a hunch today might be different.

Look, I got a spot right away! And nobody is waiting either. I’d heard that there was gonna be a gang rumble happening at 3pm today on TV, some sort of violent battle between Green and Yellow. The pelones love that stuff, might as well try to see if I can find a spot.

Sure enough, nobody was there. Throw in the 8 quarters, this heap of crap is getting a hosing! Look at this, even the cholo hangout spot (aka the vacuum and drying area) is open. On a Sunday!

Rinse and Soap, Soap Brush, Rinse, Wax, and a final Rinse later, I’m heading to that mythical land where the after wash party happens. I usually have to leave, pull over on the street, and then wipe down my windows. Today I finally got to the vacuum lanes, was able to take my time, and even snap a few pics of the funny anti-limosneros sign.

Usually its a battle of loudness between Norteño and Rap but nobody was blasting the music today.

Signs that mean nothing. But it wasn’t necessary today anyways.

At about 3pm, when the event was supposed to start, a bunch of other smart people showed up to hose down the dirt. They must have all figured out the meatheads would be busy at that moment.

No wait, no rush, no stare downs, and a clean car. I win!

Just a tip for you to consider next year around Souper Bowl time.

Hah, you’re old school, my friend. Refreshing. You’re like the most interesing Eastside dude in the world. “I don’t often wash my car, but when I do I hose it off on superbowl Sunday.”

  2. Lorena says:

dude you’re so green you should throw seeds on the dirt. You could have the first living car roof, maybe grow some cilantro

  3. EL CHAVO! says:

    Parker,
Ha Ha! I should use that as my catchphrase.

    Lorena,
Now that’s a good idea! And I can make salsa on the go.
