LH DIY Moving Co.

End of the month, start of the moving headaches. Can’t afford to stay, can’t afford to go. Deposit, security,  and first month to be paid upfront.  No credit cards, no friends with trucks. How to get this couch across LH? The old tried, true, and free method: via the multi-purpose, common property that is the shopping cart. Load it up with tv’s, clothes, furniture, bathroom supplies, records, or as in this case, living room couches.

Push it along the avenues, people will look. But nobody will stare. We’ve all done it. We all know the need. The necessity of things. The route of only options.

We trudge along, making our way through this existence, getting to the next station. Hopefully with some accessories to make the next stop a bit more comfortable.

There is no shame in comfort.

I love it when you get all poetic like. You have to read this Edward James Olmos style.

  2. Jesus Christ, that’s hell! I’ve always been lucky enough that my padrino had a truck. We can file this one under “Being Punished because you’re poor.” And you know that file is getting heavy these days.

OK, but maybe it was like some weird go cart that they were taking to the Hollenbeck Skate Park. I mean, right?

I love that people (well, around here at least) are so resourceful and seem to always find a way. I grew up with furniture from neighbors or yard sales or trash day and had an across the street and up a block move back in the day, so this looks so familiar.

I just did this myself.. not with a shopping cart (that would have been handy!) but with a sturdy moving cart & my own muscle.. no friends to help.. (ok the hubby helped some) across the street.. I don’t know how many freaking trips I took.. too many to count.

Grateful it was only across the street & up & down some elevators and through some halls rather than up the street or across the entire neighborhood like the folks pictured. The cost was minimal but the effort great. I totally feel for folks needing to do the same!
