This is a picture of the menu, with all the pertinent info.

This is the breakfast menu, which included our $8.50 HR’s

caca05

You order inside at the counter. You sit wherever you want, they’ll bring the food out to you.

caca06

This is a picture of absence. Chips and salsa are extra. You know how I feel about that, don’t you? We brought our own decent coffee from HLP.

caca07

The HR’s are a bit different. They go for some okay potatoes (a bit dry) and frijoles de olla (need salt) and just a light sprinkle of queso cotija. The sauce isn’t too exciting though, mostly just blended tomatoes. And the eggs were overcooked.

caca08

And they try to be even more gourmet by using a blue corn tortilla.

I was not impressed.

I think I would try it anyway, just for the name and because it looks cute

by cute you mean bougerois? $8.50 huevos rancheros? what the fuck? There’s a recession going on… I guess it doesn’t impact the rich though.

  3. Nombre TA Loca says:

    @ Matt, Word!
I can buy a pack of extra large eggs for $1.69 and make the juevos rancheros in mi casa. Besides if I’m going to spend money in the calle for food, it better top my home cooking. Si no Chale!

  4. Beatriz says:

What potatoes are you talking about? I almost didn’t see them on the plate hiding behind the plastic molcajete.

  5. Erika says:

This article was FAR too exciting to read that I could hardly get through it without being overcome with excitement.

  6. Sol says:

WTH is that on the plate? No son huevos rancheros that’s for sure. I think those tomatoes were over processed in a blender. I’ll stick to my molcajete. And where’s the chile? I don’t see chile…Uyyyyyyyyy. Thanks for the warning. Won’t be eating there when I get home to El A.

You should have come to the “mexicatessan” here in Fruitvale. I’m going to review their HRs now with your standard in mind.
