El Centro In Transition

walk_angelstuck

Hey Gang! It’s been some time since my last post, but yes, I am still alive. What a shit show the last few years have been, que no? I’m glad I’m not constantly posting my opinions online anymore because it would be a relentless stream of hate towards Capitalism, la politica, Cops (in all their forms), you know, the usual suspects. The level of brutality unleashed by the current administration is not surprising but it’s still shocking to witness. Even more astounding is watching it get normalized in real time. “Protestor executed on city streets, and next up, the red carpet fashions at the Grammys you don’t want to miss!” Ugh, I better stop before I really get on a rant!

This here below is an old post that never left the draft folder from way back in 2013, might as well clear it out. Yes, I am pushing out garbage, I told you this was the shit show era! Enjoy the slop!

I work Downtown thus I’m kinda forced to think about and experience El Centro. Of course, right? My take on Grand Central Market doesn’t seem to be the one people want to hear. We are in yet another era of LA Boosterism, a bit different than before but possibly the same in substance. Ideas and dreams of how it can be tend to gloss over how it actually is. Since money tends to be the language that determines the discussion it is safe to assume the conversation will be planned out accordingly.

I really don’t want Downtown LA to become just another vapid center of recreational consumption for those with a bit of extra cash, even though that seems to be the grand design for the center of our city. So consider these posts on DTLA as my contribution to the voice of opposition, just so the record shows not everyone agreed with the master plans being imposed on the heart of Los Angeles.

Above: the Angels Flight derails and gets shut down. Nobody is saying nothing about it.

walk_birds

Trash cans suddenly get preachy about life and stuff. Here we see the trash cans getting upset about people feeding birds, cuz diseases.

walk_bottle

Drunks with money like to break bottles just like the poor drunks, they just use better bottles.

walk_camera1

Big Brother…

walk_camera2

…prefers big cameras.

walk_devils

Some fun loving motorcyclists from Mexico want their picture in front of my favorite chile stand. It’ll probably get kicked out by the next time they ride into town.

walk_novios

Weird, kinda creepy, note about love left in a newspaper stand. Congrats to los novios.

walk_pisstree

Pissing on buildings, planters, sidewalks is not cool. Instead, piss on a stupid tree. I’m sure a non-stop stream of dog urine is excellent for trees.

walk_smellnosign

They better not try doing another No Age sign again.

walk_springarcade

The Spring Street Arcade has almost cleared out all the old vendors, just as the new hip vendors start to take their place.

walk_velozclosed

I was really sad when Huarache Veloz closed down, they had some pretty good food. I still have an unfinished HR review from them. I think that whole building is empty now, so much for Huizar’s “Bringing back Broadway”!

Thanks for reading along, I think I may post again in the near future. Bought a house in LH, my mom is dead and buried, my cat is doing better after surgery. If I don’t get unalived by Federal agents, I may have some time for more of these babosadas. ¿Quien sabe?

Fin.
