Huevos Rancheros: Four Daughters Kitchen

I don’t intentionally visit the ethnic eateries of People of Pallor to review their Huevos Rancheros. At least not lately. I’ve come to accept that there’s just a different palate for all us humans, based on factors such as history, geography, economics, culture, aspirations, convenience, yelp, brunch, lemmings, hunger, and plain ol’ stupidity. No point in going out of my way for a dish I’m likely not to enjoy. None of that is relevant for this review as the candidate for today’s HR’s just kinda happened.

Mostly cuz of the limited veggie options. Even the potatoes have pancetta (some sort of Italian bacon) but you can ask for the without option. I thought they had biscuits here, which is why I really wanted to go. It’s also on the way to some favorite South Bay beaches, seems popular, plus why not?

“I will have your Huevos Rancheros, please.”

“Sure thing, an order of Waay Bose. Just so you know, the beans have lard.”

Ugh.

“That’s okay.”

Worst. Vegetarian. Ever. But. Don’t. Care.

Damn! That’s some White Huevos Rancheros! Nah man, I mean, look at how white they look. Like the color I mean. Ethnic eateries never fail to surprise with their charming culinary twists. In this case, the unique came in the form of a good blanketing of the HR’s in some Jack cheese. So much that you can barely see the lil’ bit of red salsa ranchera, you can sorta spot it over on the right hand side, towards the center of the picture. Not enough for me to comment on the flavor. Y pa’ cabarla de chingar, after the requisite let’s-make-it-Mexican-with-the-addition-of-avocado, they pulled out the sour cream shooter and let the culprits have it. Pow! Pow! Yer basically eating an open faced quesadilla. Underneath the cheese blanket, the eggs. They ask how you want your Waay Bose, nice touch. Despite my over-medium request, they were undercooked, but still much better than being overcooked. The lard beans were underneath the eggs, not on the side as I had assumed, but it’s a small amount and barely noticed. The papas are decent.

I do have to acknowledge that these white HR’s are hip to what I’ve been saying all these years: you need a fucking crispy tortilla underneath the fucking dish you fucking morons. Sure, it might be a tostada, but that is much better than some floppy and flacid pair of oily tortillas that provide no huevo support. The Huckleberry people caught on, this place has figured that aspect out, why can’t everyone else get on board?

They have good coffee, it’s a nice place, even beer on tap. Go for those things.

Not the HR’s.
