I’ve been wary of checking out La Cabanita mostly because the good reviews I’ve heard tend to include some gushing praise for the Margaritas, something I don’t usually associate with decent Mexican food. It not ‘Fiesta Time’ for me, just normal eating. Besides, I’d rather stick to Negra Modelo! At around 10:30 in the morning, there was already some dude at the bar having a Margarita and a beer, just as I expected.
I felt more at ease when the warm tortilla chips arrived, with two excellent salsas: a fresh tomatillo based green salsa and a roasty red salsa. Things are looking up!
And then my nicely presented HR’s showed up. They didn’t skimp on the spicy tomato sauce that covered the perfectly cooked eggs, served over oil-dipped tortillas. Plus a decent side of black beans, and handmade tortillas de maiz to round out the dish. Wow, good HR’s from a Margarita place. Who knew?

I recently moved to this area from HP and we tried their $8 lunch special the other day. The food was really good and not your typical ‘Mexican’ restaurant food covered in cheese. I look forward to going back and evaluation the margarita’s.
I love the Yin and Yang of it all.
Margarita and a beer don’t sound good that early in the morning (unless I was a teen who enjoyed 40’s while ditching school) but them Huevos Rancheros look delicious!
I just called this place. They said they were open but didn’t have HR now. BOOOOO!
