Some time ago I was having a conversation with a friend about how you rarely see ladies out with their tubos anymore, which I thought meant most everyone nowadays has an electric curler. But lo and behold, as I was eating a plate of chiles rellenos at La Morenita on Broadway this weekend, some señoras came in for their late breakfast and one of them was sporting tubos covered by a bufanda, all Doña Florinda style. I guess it doesn’t take much to please me, as this certainly put a positive spin on the rest of my day. All Power to the Tubos!

word!
Can’t remember the last time I wore them. There was a look into the past!
My grandma walks around the house like that.
And once or twice, my mom had gone out to run some errand and forgotten that she had a tubo in her bangs. Oops.
Use the flash on that camera, I don’t see anything in their hair.
When I was a little kid I thought it so cool and adult to wear tubos in your hair (especially while shopping) cause it meant later on you were going to a party or some other fancy event. I also thought it was cool the way women hid money in their bra straps.
And then when they come out and offer you coffee, you’re supposed to say “No seria mucha molestia?”
My mom still ventures out with her tubos usually covered by a scarf. Every once in a while she forgets the scarf and finds her self undoing them down the supermarket aisle and solding my dad, “Por que no me dejiste!”
My mom wears them every day and all morning. Que barbara! Takes out the trash, waters the plants and with NO bufanda lol. She’s OG like that.
My anti spam word was chapuza….lol… I thought that was funny..I havent heard that word in a while…anyway.. My mom wears them after she gets out of the shower every morning. I use to wear them over night when I wanted to have smooth curls the next morning as a teenager. I still remember when I would wake up in the middle of the night and would take them off half asleep cause they hurt me…lol those were the days.
I’ve always heard them referred to as rizos, never as tubos. Learn something new everyday.
Nowadays, isn’t it all about the straight hair (planchado)?
I still wear tubos what u talking about mijo??? LMao!! but you had me rolling when you brought that up ahhahahaha
That’s so sweet. I bet that in a couple years the tubos are gonna be all the rage among LA’s young hipster youth (male and female).
The Worst was when my Tia would come over so my Mom could give her something called a “Permanente”! My mom & aunt would wear these weird little pink Tubos all day and that shit would stink up the whole house so that my bros & I couldn’t set foot inside the house until after my aunt finally went home that night with her hair looking like a funky little afro.
ja, doña florinda, el Chavo is back, animated. but somehow something is missing. What you think?
