If you live in LH you might have seen these stickers around. Courtesy of the Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Council (thanks Erika!) I have a few of these to give away. So if you want one for your hip-but-stupid fixed gear bike, your beat up old carcancha that’s held together by duct tape and crossed fingers, or for that laptop that you are still paying off on your maxed out credit card, nows your chance to get one for free! Just leave a reason why you like LH in the comment area below, I’ll email you for a mailing address, and a brand new vinyl sticker will find its way to your hands via the ever capable US Postal Service.

Te Como la Cara de Plato

Another piece of found art to add to the collection. This fine graphic specimen reminds me of the gitano phrase “te como la cara” which translates to “I’ll eat your face”, a term of endearment similar to “I’ll smother your face with kisses.” Might this random drawing I found on the street be a play on words to that saying? Sure, why not, of course it is!

Huevos Rancheros: Gloria Marron

It’s about time for another review of Huevos Rancheros! This episode takes us to yet another LH locale, the little shack known as Gloria’s (now called Gloria Marron) but which has recently undergone a few ownership changes. A few months ago the newest owners set up shop and quickly put up some nice paintings on the walls, that’s always a good sign! Check out the pic above: a tortilla maker punching down the masa with one hand while pulling out a perfectly formed tortilla with the other, that is some talent. There’s also some fresh salsa in the molcajete and fresh aguas in the background. You know it’s worth a try! So I did.. Continue reading →

Quinceañera Gone Stupid

The latest trend in quinceañera transportation seems to be focused on excess: massive vehicles utterly inappropriate in the real world but somehow acceptable during the rite-of-passage for young ladies. I’ll hold back my inclination to shake my finger in disapproval, and keep my tsk, tsk-ing to myself. I snapped these pics mostly because of the incongruity (at least to me) of this massive beast of a car parked outside of the local Catholic church. Too bad it wasn’t bumping some gangsta rap, that would have been perfect! More pics after the jump.

Rose Eye Building Coming Down

The Rose Eye Medical Group building on Broadway (near LHS) which has been vacant for a long time is getting bulldozed. It’s sad to see it go as it had some nice features, another bit of history sent out to the dumps, just like our Town Clock that seems to be lost forever. Supposedly some sort of entertainment/arcade (?) center is going to be built there. But really, if they’re going to tear down a building next to a high school, can’t the developers be made to provide some better protection for pedestrians. This shit looks really unsafe.
