Cone Food 0 – Taste Buds 1!

cone_down.jpg

That boring looking eatery in the pic above has one good thing going for it: it’s proof that the “flagship” store for the abysmal caloric products made by Crispycones has finally sunk. If you forgot to try HR’s in a cone, you are now out of luck. Lucky you.

Ha, ha! Your food was lousy! Nobody wants to eat crap! Ha, ha! (apologies to Sir. Nelson Muntz)

Trash Day

order.jpg

I like taking pictures of normal things. Stupid things. The stuff you see everyday but give little attention, as it rightly should be. I find insignificance interesting: the things people use on a daily basis, the language they use to relate to each other, the customs they’ve developed to make things easier, it all hints at what makes people and cities function as they do. Mostly you notice the small things when you travel, like the coin-operated meters that dispense heat in some London flats, the communal cooking clubs in the Basque country, or how friends were surprised (but appreciative) when I whistled for a faraway cab in Glasgow. I’m not usually interested in the museums or the other fancy buildings most cities use to promote themselves, I want to know about that green sauce you poured on my mash!

So even in my own hometown, its useful to pay attention to the little things. But trash cans? I haven’t lost all my canicas (yet) and I know it’s kinda stupid, but I like how they look so orderly before the pickup (like the pic above) and the bin disaster left by a hurried worker is even better! If you consider it a weekly parade of plastic helpers doing our dirty work, even if nobody comes out to watch, maybe you’ll have a better appreciation of the task they fulfill. Or maybe not. Oh well. Pa’ los demas, siganme los basureros!

How to make Veggie Mole

a_comer.jpg

Okay all you lazy ass eaters that claim you can’t cook, here’s a recipe that is super easy, quite tasty, and will more than surprise your microwave-ready friends. It’s a simple vegetarian mole recipe based on the stuff you can get from the grocery shelf, done veggie style. Sure, you can probably grind your own chiles, seeds, nuts, and chocolate, but where’s the easy in that?

Job Opening

carnicero.jpg

Before there was Craigslist, the simple paper sign would suffice. And in some places, maybe it still does. Especially if your intended target also collects Naughty Chicken vending toys. The small type sez ‘Squeeze me for Egg’, sounds pretty naughty to me!

Huevos Rancheros: Swingers

hr_swingers.jpg

Sometimes, when I can’t decide, I’ll order the joke dish just to have a laugh, but this one was funnier than expected.

Pros:

~ Eating amongst a bunch of hipsters. My friend sez it’s good for sociological research.

~ Friendly spanish-speaking busboy gave us 2 straws for the Rocket shake.

~ Water tasted like water. Quite the acheivement on my favorite drink!

Cons:

~ Took around 30 minutes to get my plate. I thought slow was reserved for pupusas.

~ My dish. Circular eggs over black beans, cheese, a non-fried tortilla. Topped with a dollop of guacamole and chunks of tomato. Que chistosos! This is not a proper attempt at HR’s.

~ No beans or rice or anything on the side. Fucking tightwads.

~ Around 7 bucks. Again, que fucking funny!

Swingers 802 Broadway Santa Monica (310) 393-9793
