I was away for just a spell, but I’m back, safe and unsound in Los Angeles. I have lots of stuff to share, hopefully soon (haha!) but I figured I’d take a quick look at what’s happening NOW in the big ol’ LH. Alot can change in just a few weeks. Why, it suddenly feels like the sun is setting super early, or is that just me? No matter, I’ll light me up some candles and work til the crack of dawn to get this important information out to the world!
BTW, if you lost a Pitt Bull DOG, somebody found it.
I get back and right away there’s breaking news of another murder in LH, a 16 year old named Maria Valderrama. Crazy violence is an expected outcome in an insane society.
The old Buddist Temple is up for lease. I miss those vibrant colors and the monks walking around the neighborhood.
Damn, this place keeps changing over fast! Looks like they have lots of options, including HR’s. I’ll be there eventually, but there’s a few other places I need to try in LH. Uh, and some reviews I just need to type up. I am way behind on my self-imposed duties.
I was at the 99¢ store and some young girl came up to me to give me this flyer. That was weird, do I look like a gamer? Hmm, I wonder if they have BZflag?
Sure enough, a new gaming spot in the LH Mini Mall, weekends only.
Tony’s Indoor Swap Meet has new signage!
Looks like Tony is buying up the block! Is this the same Tony from the Wateria by Llamarada?
The crossing button now has a semi-remote control option. Assuming you can pull out enough cable. Hmm, but really, what’s going on?
Victory Outreach is muscling in on the religious thrift store business. I can’t wait to see what kinda goods the cholo church has to offer.
ALZA can sell you a sign under a sign. At least he’s just selling signs and not real estate. Hard to see, but there’s his name right on the corner.
City services are literally being held together by rubber bands. And over at Lincoln Park:
Lincoln Park is closed due to a power outage. There has been no effort on the city’s part to make any repairs. Our Senior Citizens, teens, & children are highly affected by this. We had no choice but to cancel all programs. Please call Councilmen Ed Reyes’ office at (213)473-7001 & help voice your concerns.”Parks are for people” & “WE” the People, need our Park up and running for our community and families. Thank You.
Bring a flashlight, sez a city worker.
Monkman Drugs has kiddie rides? What’s happening there now?
Boutiques are starting to spring up on Daly.
Aside from the coming soon sign, the tagged plastic has been there for awhile. It looks kinda cool though.
The Smart and Final is less busy than it was those first few days. They have lots and lots of brand new shopping carts. But they don’t carry the newspaper. Which isn’t a big deal unless you don’t have $1.50 in quarters available. Strangely, my clerk ran out of dollars and she gave me $2.30 in change. All of it in dimes! No Sunday paper for me. No worries, I found other ways to waste my time.
NOOOOOOO! They’ve replaced the crosswalk signals with these that are not as satisfying to press. Or pound, as the case may be. Now I can’t bash in that button while I wait at the corner. Now I can’t use my sure fire way to get the signal to turn green: press button fast 10 times, wait 7 seconds, then press button in one second intervals. It will change to green right after that. It’s a cruel, cruel world.
On my way home, I spotted an environmentalist couple earning some carbon credits by picking up an abandoned couch. I helped them load it onto their truck. How many points is that?
Found out at work that the death of Maria Valderrama was due to a domestic dispute. It’s really disheartening how often this happens. And equally sad is how it was not enough announced at Lincoln. Not even a moment of silence. Recently a long-time janitor died, an awesome man, and he too passed on without any sort of public announcement. I know some things are personal, but the passing of a member of our community touches & affects us all.
That sign at Tony’s is a ALZA one too. (No) Thanks to you, Iam now well-versed in ALZA-font!
Welcome back…great pics and commentary once again 🙂
Since last year ive been using my elbow to press the crossing buttons(you know I don’t want to catch any weird germs or bacteria)- over in downtown, east los and montebello we still got the big round yellow buttons.
