Huevos Rancheros: Ventura Edition

I hate to admit it, but yes,  I have started using Yelp as a resource. I don’t write any reviews on there or anything (I mean, who’s lame enough to write up their adventures with breakfast?) but I do like to scan some comments to get a sense of what a place is all about. Yelpers seem to love everything, unless someone treats them with less than utmost respect, then the place gets driven into the ground. Still, with some critical reading you can cobble together a sense of what to expect from the comments, thus I found this place from some comments for some other nearby eatery. What a sad world we live in, where the internet starts suggesting your next meal.

But yeah, I’ll give Golden Egg Cafe a go.

Huevos Rancheros: Bun ‘n Burger

Someone recommended this diner place in Alhambra. The idea was to have a typical American breakfast of eggs, hashbrowns, toast, etc.

But when I saw the HR’s on the menu amongst just a few other Mexican choices it just seemed like a challenge. It’s not like they have all the other usual options, so maybe they’ve got this dish down. That was my thinking. And my hope.

Let the eggs fall where they may. I will have a #5.

Old Pot, New Pot

I’ve kept using this beat up old pot for a long time. Mostly because it reminded me of my grandma, since it was the beat up old pot she was getting rid of and it got passed down to me. A very long time ago. It works fine, the food gets cooked. It even got featured in a  post about making beans. I liked my self-made tradition of always cooking my beans in this lil’ old pot with a memory imprint. I didn’t really like that lots of the black paint was chipped off, or the thought of all the aluminum I was probably consuming. But it was my bean pot.

I kept meaning to replace it. Then my abue died a few years back. I was told not to attend the funeral.  I don’t have many mementos or items from her, just memories and some recipes, so I stupidly kept the pot even longer. But I’m done with silly sentimentality for family.

Time to start a new tradition.
