Huevos Rancheros: Las Cazuelas

hr_caz1

I was up in Frisco over the weekend, at the yearly Anarchist Bookfair, and I came back a bit pissed. There was this talk that I was looking forward to hearing, suggested by someone that wanted my opinion on the topic, when all of a sudden it was disrupted by some moralistic assholes that thought I shouldn’t hear what the woman was talking about. She had some critique of being vegetarian/vegan so three fools took it upon themselves to hit her with a cayenne pepper laced pie. That was the end of that session, as she spent the rest of her allotted time washing out her burning eyes in the restroom.

I’ve been trying to come up with a post idea to deal with this issue, something to denounce these 3 Vegan Nazis and their misguided tactics, but it hasn’t come to me yet. I wanted to say something to express my contempt towards all forms of Moral Fundamentalism, that ideology that denies our humanity and turns us all into mere characters, something that would also shame those in the crowd that cheered this assault. I can’t figure out a way to say it. Maybe I’m not cut out for opinionating.

Fuck it, I’ll just do an HR review instead. That’ll make both the Vegans and the Anti-Factory Farming authors angry! No pies please.

Indoor Sidewalk

indoorsidewalk

I’m fairly lax with my usage of the English language, butchering a sentence here, misspelling a word there, crapping on formality and pissing on good taste pretty much all over the place. Like just right there. It’s ok, my mom doesn’t object. My dad hasn’t complained either. Thus I can give some leeway in ill-used definitions of words, assuming you are not trying to be a dick by saying Echo Park is part of the Eastside. But even I have my limits.

Check out the Hollywood video on N. Broadway advertising their fabulous “Indoor Sidewalk Sale” which promises “DVD’S” (ha!) at 3 or 4 bucks each, give or take a penny. When the first Indoor swap meets came around, that was a stretch, but yeah, they kinda were. I was less tolerant of a big Yard Sale being held indoors, but maybe these people just didn’t know better. Now a major corporation advertises for a sidewalk sale, inside their store. Isn’t that just the same sale bin they always have inside? Come on now, just because some of us in LH aren’t so up on our English skills doesn’t mean you can play all loose with those words we keep meaning to learn. We ain’t that stupid.

Next yer gonna tell me about a restaurant serving street food indoors! Ha, ha! What? Oh, you mean yer serious?

I’m gonna try to remember to stop being shocked by how stupid shit is.

New LH Clock!

clock1

Remember when some film production company destroyed our LH clock, way back in 2006? Well we finally have a replacement, and it only took about 4 years for that to happen.  It’s similar to the original, but different. I was hoping they’d replace it with something modern, like a big LED display that flashes the time, and maybe some text messages we could send to it. Now that would be fun! But they kept with the old-timey theme instead. Oh well, at least its working!

On a day when couples were crowding out this downtown pocket park, a lone paisa sleeps and dreams. Or forgets.

Window Repair

carwindow

If you look closely you’ll see something odd about this car. There’s a long tradition in LH of people fixing up broken car windows with plastic bags and tape but this person took it to a new level, a temporary fix that looks almost perfect. They used some thick type of plastic sheet and cut it to size, and maybe some glue and tape to hold it on to the car. Not sure how its going to hold up to the water though.

This is quite an improvement on the old trash bag/duct tape technology and maybe they should set up some sort of Professional Mickey Mouse Job establishment for quality repairs on the cheap. Its what Lincoln Heights really needs.
